Berlinale 2015: The winners

The Festival closed its doors tonight after having awarded amongst the most noticeable: “600 Millas” by Gabriel Ripstein,Taxi” by Jafar Panahi, “45 years” by Andrew Haigh.

The International Jury created a very moving moment when The Silver bear was handed to “Taxi” by Jafar Panahi, making this prize particularly significant this year considering the current situation of the Iranian Director, still under the weigh of censorship in his native country and unable to travel abroad, thus underlining once more the importance of free speech. Panahi’s tearful niece, received the award on behalf of her uncle.

imagesJafar Panahi was convicted of spreading anti-government propaganda after the Iranian government took umbrage at the content of his film and sentenced with a film-making ban, as well as a jail sentence which he has fortunately so far managed to avoid.
